Luca Granato (b. 1999, Cosenza, Italy) is a visual artist based in Southern Italy. He holds a degree in Painting from the Academy of Fine Arts in Catanzaro and is currently pursuing a PhD in Performing Arts and Cultural Heritage. In 2022, he founded Osservatoriomaree, an independent artistic research platform that engages international artists in collaborative projects across the Calabrian territory. His work has received numerous awards and recognitions, including the first prize at Searth – The European Video-Art Contest in the Adriatic Lagoon (2023) and a special mention by the jury at the Combat Prize. He was selected for the Booming Art Fair and Arcipelaghi open calls with the project Lenti nel sogno, and was among the finalists of the fourth edition of the Exibart Prize. In 2024, he won the 20 Seconds of Art competition in Vienna and was selected by Italea Calabria, a program supported by the Italian Ministry of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation.
Granato’s artistic research is rooted in writing culture and grassroots activism, with a focus on the notion of the Third Landscape. His practice unfolds as a long-term inquiry into the depopulation of Southern Italy and the complex dynamics that shape human relationships with their environments. By exploring ethnographic, historical, intimate, and ecological perspectives, his projects aim to trace connections between past, present, and future, examining how individual and collective memories intertwine, transform, and shape our interactions with the world around us.
